Single blood test to detect cancer earlier is a step closer, scientists say, after they found more than 800 possible signs of cancer, called biomarkers, in the blood of cancer patients.

This is a new approach to early detection and the first time such a systematic review has been conducted, study author Professor Ian Cree, from the University of Warwick and University Hospital Coventry, said in a statement. “A single blood-based screening test would be a game-changer for finding cancer earlier, which could help make it a curable disease for more patients.

All cancers leave a signature in the blood, raising the possibility of a general screening test for many different types of cancer.
